Where has the time gone?

Again, I have been slacking on the blog. Sorry. My only saving grace is that I keep a book journal, so my reads are getting logged that way. I started the book journal in 2001, and it is fun to look back and to see what I have read. It all started when I bought a book at Barnes and Noble only to come home and find that I had read it, in fact I owned it, but they had changed the cover on me. In the meantime, it has been all about school work here. I did squeeze in a trip to the Bahamas. Let me just say that Carnival cruises rock! As my budget is less than friendly, it was an affordable trip that was fantastic. The airfare to Miami actually cost us more than the cruise itself. My idea of heaven has always been a deck chair, some fresh air, and a book. Mission accomplished.
Just a heads up for those of you in the Mid-Atlantic region, the Philadelphia Book Festival is upon us. The only one I'm really excited about is Margot Livesy. Eva Moves the Furniture is one of my favorite books. Oh, and a couple of years ago I read The Life Before Her Eyes and it was wonderful. Now it's going to be a movie starring one of my favorite actresses, Uma Thurman. I just watched There Will Be Blood, and I want to read the novel it is adapted from: Oil! by Upton Sinclair.

Nebula Nominees Novellette

The Nebula nominees keep coming and I keep knocking them down! So far, I haven't really run into anything I have found so undesireable that I have been unable to finish it. I realize that some things are not going to be to my taste, and I am not going to beat myself up for not finishing them. The novellettes were not a problem. Also, how cute is the word "novellette"? I read some really great stories in this category. "The Long Fall Up" is simply mind-blowing with the idea that a woman so wants to give birth under her own terms that should would steal a spaceship and take off-knowing that she would be alone for delivery. Wow. "Sooner or Later Everything Falls into the Sea" is another modern fairy tale that I just loved. Seriously, Sarah Pinsker just made the LIST (the list of new authors I have discovered while doing this project). "Blood Grains Speak Through Memories" is unlike anything I have every read in my entire life, it freaked m...
